Lexington historic panel rejects fence, lighting and stage for a town-owned arts building after neighbors object. The Historic Districts Commission, chaired by Lee Noel Chase, split the Munroe Tavern front-yard application into four separate votes after members said they couldn't act on it as one package: a proposed stage failed 2-4, a perimeter fence failed 1-5, and 12-foot light poles failed 1-6, while widened accessible sidewalks passed unanimously. More than a dozen residents spoke against the fence and lighting, with abutter Matt Hodges warning the changes "would permanently change" the historic setting.
Commissioners also advanced work at 4 Muzzy Street, unanimously approving new HVAC screening and storefront replacement while continuing paint-color and lighting details, and directed architect Colin Smith to redesign a 20 Muzzy Street rear addition toward a more modern style. Five smaller applications, including a 1061 Massachusetts Avenue accessory dwelling unit, passed unanimously.
