Groton's Complete Streets Committee voted to name Deanna Kass and Takashi Tada co-clerks and elect Gordon D. Row vice chairman. Both votes passed 5-0 by roll call with members Peter Cunningham, Kass, Row, Stephen A. Legge and Tada present; Brian Callahan and George Barringer were absent. Tada reported Niche Engineering expects final design documents around Memorial Day for the Lover's Lane multi-use path and Sandy Pond Road sidewalk projects, with construction possible by late summer.
Members weighed applying for a Safe Streets for All grant by the May 26 deadline but worried it would conflict with an ongoing MDM Main Street corridor study. Cunningham said of the Route 119/Townsend Road intersection, the town's most accident-prone, "there have been some pretty serious accidents there." Greg Sheldon of the Destination Groton Committee presented an 89-page vision report citing $60 million to $77 million in annual retail leakage.
