Complete Streets Committee · Meeting of May 29, 2026
Groton's Complete Streets Committee reviewed near-final designs for two sidewalk and path projects and weighed a new rail-trail grant bid. Member Takashi Tada said Niche Engineering was finalizing plans for the Sandy Pond Road sidewalk and the Lovers Lane multi-use path, which the committee wants to put out to bid quickly to catch this year's construction season. Member Deanna Kass asked whether the Lovers Lane design would need fencing to separate pedestrians from Country Club overflow parking.
Member George Barringer said MassDOT "has become a little bit better and a little bit more responsive" on reviewing town proposals. Destination Groton representative Greg Sheldon said the group is seeking a $50,000 state Mass Downtown Initiative grant, with a $10,000 local match, for rail-trail signage and a kiosk proposed by member Gordon Row, who said he watched cyclists "pass right by" downtown Groton without stopping. The committee also approved minutes from its March 20 and April 24 meetings.
