Sherborn Advisory Committee Approves $11,000 in Year-End Transfers Unanimously

Finance Committee · Meeting of July 13, 2026

Sherborn Advisory Committee approves $11,000 in year-end transfers and learns Finance Director will retire in September. The committee voted 7 to 0 on July 13 to concur with the Select Board's transfer of $2,000 to the Town Buildings department and $9,000 to the Transfer Station, both of which overspent their fiscal year 2026 appropriations. The Transfer Station ran a combined $19,000 over budget for the year across two transfer rounds, driven by rising wind-waste disposal costs and higher-than-anticipated hauling fees.

Finance Director Deb Seafring, presenting the requests, noted the town ended FY26 under budget overall by more than $500,000, with all nine departmental overages absorbed by a surplus in the Employee Benefits appropriation. The meeting's most consequential announcement came in member reports, when Seafring confirmed she will retire at the start of September after completing the annual audit, prompting members to urge the town to recruit a successor with dedicated municipal accounting experience.
