Maynard Finance Committee Previews Special Town Meeting Warrant, Faces Tight Comment Deadline
Finance Committee · Meeting of August 10, 2026
Maynard Finance Committee reviews Special Town Meeting warrant articles but takes no votes, citing unfinalized drafts. Chair Jillian Prendergast told the committee at its August 10 remote meeting that Finance Committee recommendations were technically due that day but that most articles are not yet in final form, leaving only the August 24 meeting before the September 9 deadline. Three articles already accepted onto the warrant were discussed: a transfer of solid waste fee authority from the Board of Health to the Select Board, a town-wide ban on cryptocurrency ATMs sponsored by the bylaw committee, and an expansion of the Historical Commission from five to seven members.
Member Peter Campbell voiced strong support for the crypto ATM ban, citing a Massachusetts Attorney General finding that 80 percent of such transactions were "in furtherance of fraud." Campbell, Moore, and Prendergast each volunteered to draft Finance Committee comments on those articles. The committee approved its July 27 meeting minutes 6-0 with Nathaniel Dwyre abstaining, and voted unanimously to adjourn at 8:07 p.m.
