School Committee Candidate Haynes-Copperthorne Cites State Findings, Budget Shortfall in Campaign Pitch

ARLINGTON — March 17, 2026 — Arlington School Committee candidate Crystal Haynes-Copperthorne made her public case March 17, asking voters to send her to the board in the March 28 election. Haynes-Copperthorne, a former Emmy Award-winning journalist who also teaches at Northeastern University and Simmons University, built her pitch around three pillars: equity and excellence, representation in leadership, and fiscal stewardship. She cited a state-identified multi-million dollar budget shortfall, ongoing special education compliance concerns raised by families, and gaps in bullying reporting compliance as the challenges a new member must address. Haynes-Copperthorne, who has endorsements from state Representative Sean Garbley and board member Joe Kiro, said she would be the first person of color to serve on the Arlington School Committee if elected.
