Plant Committee Finalizes Weekend Garden Planting, Debates Parade Role

Pepperell's Invasive and Native Plant Advisory Committee locked in weekend garden logistics and left its Fourth of July plans undecided. The committee approved its April 9 minutes unanimously and set a 9:30 a.m. Saturday, May 2 planting date for its 250th anniversary garden, pulling plants largely from the Mystic Meadows nursery after asking a volunteer to take down a poster inviting the whole town to help, saying "we've spent too much money on these plants to have people come in who don't know what they're doing." A second project, a pollinator garden at the Fitts, targets a tentative May 23 planting date.

Member Annette said an eagle puppet funded partly by the town of Groton is "95 percent" likely to appear in Pepperell's July 4 parade, though the committee has not decided whether to march. More than half of the group's garlic mustard removal kits have already been claimed at the library.
