Pepperell DPW presses toward January water shutoffs over roughly $360,000 in unpaid bills. The Board of Public Works heard that a first round of warning letters to about 103 delinquent water and sewer accounts, each owing more than $2,000, recovered roughly $30,000, about 10 percent of what's owed. The board approved a $1,900 upfront payment plan for one customer and confirmed a smaller group of chronically delinquent accounts will be shut off this month after repeated notices.

The DPW administrator said "we're going to shut these people off in January," noting staff had confirmed the heating systems in those homes don't require running water. The board also voted unanimously to hold transfer station fees flat and reported the Jersey Street sewer project is headed to bid in February, with a signed contract required by June 30.
