GROTON — The Groton Park Commission weighed reviving a rejected CalPond and Cutler Field park plan after town meeting voters defeated it this spring. A member said the loss "stung," recalling a vote he put at roughly 200 to 230 against the multi-phase project, which combined parking, conservation and ADA work. Commissioners said a $1 million state grant stays available only if a future proposal keeps the project at $3.2 million or more and reaches a construction contract by December 2027; they took an informal straw poll showing interest in trying again, but pushed a formal decision to their June 8 meeting.
Separately, baseball representatives told the board maintenance costs at Cow Pond jumped from $19,623 in 2025 to $38,700 budgeted this year, including a new $12,400 weed-control contract. The commission also unanimously approved a summer permit for the town's lacrosse program.
