North Reading High School Adds Semester Electives and New Courses for 2026-27

NORTH READING — January 26, 2026 — North Reading School Committee reviews high school curriculum overhaul adding semester electives and new courses for 2026-27. Principal designee Dr. Meyer and Director of Student Counseling Services Mike Rosa presented plans to convert dozens of existing full-year electives into semester-length courses across six departments and to add new courses including financial literacy, computer drafting, artificial intelligence foundations, and calming arts. The committee raised logistical questions about sequential courses such as Accounting 1 and Accounting 2, and Superintendent Dr. Daly confirmed a policy subcommittee is already updating graduation-requirement language to reference credits rather than courses. The committee voted 5-0 to accept a donation of $8,125 from the Friends of Hornet Productions for a drama club storage container, and voted 5-0 to enter executive session on collective bargaining strategy.
