Medford ZBA approves five zoning matters, tables two ADU cases
Zoning Board of Appeals · Meeting of July 30, 2026
Medford zoning board stalls on two ADUs pending legal guidance, clears five other projects. The Zoning Board of Appeals, chaired by Andre LaRue, continued applicant Christian Austin's shed-dormer ADU proposals at 1-3 Vassar Street and 12 Wellesley Street to August 27 after member Chris DeVetta disputed the project's floor-area math, saying "you only get the smaller of those two numbers," and Senior Planner Danielle Evans called the state's new ADU law "a very messy law." The board unanimously approved a 5-0 variance letting Derek Chan relocate his driveway at 39 Rams Head Road, a 5-0 special permit for a two-story rear addition at 39 Roberts Road for Scott Carman and Ellen Whittle, and a 5-0 rear-setback variance reducing 15 feet to 10 feet for an ADU at 621 Fulton Street. It also approved, 4-0, delivery services for the New England Organic cannabis dispensary at 114 Mystic Avenue.
