Medford housing planner details trust fund loans, zoning tools to advisory council
City Meetings · Meeting of August 19, 2026
Medford advisory council hears housing and grant updates but takes no votes for lack of quorum. Housing Planner Catherine detailed the city's Affordable Housing Trust Fund, which holds about $1.17 million after two $200,000 loans to Medford Community Housing, and said Medford has no rent control after the state's Supreme Judicial Court struck a ballot initiative. "It doesn't seem that it's really following the affordable ways for people," one member said of the lottery-based application process.
Staffer Amanda reported two rejected grant applications, an open space plan update and Tufts Park stormwater work, but confirmed funding for a de-paving and flood-mitigation project on Fairfield Street in West Medford. The trust will host a resource fair September 22 at 6 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers.
