Medford Arts Council Recruits New Members, Previews Fall Grant Cycle
Arts Council · Meeting of August 17, 2026
Medford Arts Council courts new volunteers ahead of a grant cycle worth roughly $90,000. Co-chair Laura Jasinski and Grants Director Kyler Tosten walked more than a dozen prospective members through the council's finances: about $30,000 to $35,000 annually from the Massachusetts Cultural Council and roughly $60,000 to $65,000 from the city, funding grants to Medford artists once applications open September 1. Treasurer Kristen McDuffie said the council fielded about 120 applications last year.
Economic Development Planner Kayla Miros described the city's $25,000 Vacant Storefront Grant Program and floated adapting Project Pop-Up into temporary space for artists, calling it "a really interesting idea that I like to delve into more." Members also discussed applying for a Tufts University graduate research team and advocating for a roughly 15-hour-a-week paid arts liaison position still under city budget review.
