Marlborough City Council approves outdoor storage permit at 1000 Nickerson Road in 10-1 vote

MARLBOROUGH — January 12, 2026 — Marlborough City Council grants two special permits, splits 10-1 on Nickerson Road outdoor storage. The Council voted unanimously to approve a special permit for The Lifestyle Fit LLC, doing business as FRVR Athletics, to open a roughly 5,700-square-foot gym at 214 Cedar Hill Street with hours capped at 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. seven days a week. A second permit allowing JC Residential and Light Commercial LLC to use outdoor storage as an accessory use at 1000 Nickerson Road passed 10-1, with Urban Affairs and Housing Committee Chair Kathleen D. Robey dissenting over what she said was the 2005 ordinance's intent that the use be tied to "light non-nuisance manufacturing and assembly of vehicles." Council President Michael H. Ossing, the only current councilor who served in 2005, said the council "would look extremely foolish" denying a permit the building commissioner and city solicitor had cleared. The council also accepted $23,000 from the Massachusetts Clean Water Trust for SCADA cybersecurity at the Cedar Hill Water Pumping Station and reported $190,787 in third-quarter municipal aggregation savings under a new $0.13782 per kilowatt-hour First Point Power contract.
