Lowell Veterans Commission Moves to Launch Banner Program and Quarterly Recognition Award

LOWELL — January 14, 2026 — Lowell Veterans Commission advances banner program and 250th-anniversary parade plans at January session. Chairman Paul Paradise convened the January 14 meeting with a partial quorum, outlining goals to establish a veterans banner program and a "veteran of the quarter" recognition award before summer, with eligibility open to any veteran with a Lowell connection. Director of Veteran Services LaMash reported the distribution of 15 Coats for Vets supply buckets — donated through Ocean State Job Lot, the Patriots, Home Depot, and the State Police at no cost to the city — to veterans at the Crescent House, and noted one recipient has since found work as a roofer and reunited with his family. The commission also delivered a truckload of toys to a Hanscom Air Force Base family through Operation Christmas Hero. Paradise committed to approaching city hall this month about a Lowell Fourth of July parade entry for the nation's 250th anniversary, with a contingency plan to join another town's parade if Lowell declines. The city currently counts approximately four veterans living on the street.
