Library Launches Seed Program, Honors Departing Trustee
LINCOLN — With town hall silent on the newswire and school-year business paused for summer, Lincoln's most active newsmaker Wednesday was the Lincoln Public Library, which is rolling out several summer programs even as construction continues to complicate access to Library Lane.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Lincoln Public Library continues to navigate an ongoing construction project affecting Library Lane and library parking, and is advising patrons to plan extra travel time; details are posted at lincolnbigdig.com. The library is also marking a milestone moment for its board: it is honoring longtime Trustee Peter Sugar as he steps down from the Library Board of Trustees.
Several concrete programs are on the library's near-term calendar. The library's second annual Seed Library has launched, giving patrons access to seeds for home gardening, and submissions are now open for the Virginia Rundell Award. The library has also expanded its Library of Things collection with four new wifi hotspots available for checkout, alongside existing offerings like Massachusetts State Parks passes, available with a library card.
ELSEWHERE IN THE NEWS
Local obituary notices surfaced this week via public Google Alert distributions tied to Lincoln. Nancy Outten, a longtime area resident, will be remembered at a service in Lincoln, Massachusetts, on Saturday, August 29, 2026, according to notices carried by the Boston Globe's Legacy.com obituary listings. Separately, Alvin Sumner Cohen, 101, of Lincoln and formerly of Boynton Beach, Florida, passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2026, per a Dignity Memorial notice.
COMING UP
The Lincoln Public Library has a run of events set for Monday, July 20: "Craft & Chill: Vision Boards," a relaxation-focused craft session; "Mystery Mondays," this cycle featuring a discussion of "The Coroner's Lunch" by Colin Cotterill; and "Celebrating America's 250th: The Black Experience of the Revolution," a talk with independent historian Gracia Collins Rich. All three are listed on the library's event calendar.
