Lexington Wins $10,000 Grant for Event Safety Barriers

Lexington has been awarded a $10,000 risk-management grant from the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association to buy metal barriers for use at town events and celebrations, the town announced. The Select Board is separately seeking volunteers to fill an upcoming vacancy on the Trustees of Public Trusts.

TOWN HALL The Town of Lexington received a $10,000 grant from the Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA), its property and casualty insurer, to fund the purchase of metal barriers for events and celebrations, according to a town press release. The award falls under MIIA's risk-management grant program, which supports municipal safety improvements.

Separately, the Select Board is looking for qualified residents interested in filling an upcoming vacancy on the Trustees of Public Trusts, a board that manages charitable and public trust funds held by the town. Residents interested in serving can find application details on the town website.

The town also flagged its new LexSortSmart tool, a resource designed to help residents navigate waste collection and disposal rules, as part of its ongoing outreach on trash and recycling services.

SCHOOLS Two school-related meetings are on the calendar for the coming week tied to district business. The School Building Committee has a remote meeting Monday, July 20, with an agenda revised July 14, while the School Committee holds its own remote meeting Wednesday, July 22. Both come as the town continues to post updates on the Lexington High School building project on its website.

COMING UP The Select Board holds a hybrid meeting Monday, July 20. The Board of Appeals holds a remote public hearing on a legal notice for 89 Meriam St. on Thursday, July 23. On Tuesday, July 21, the Council on Aging calendar includes Senior Bingo, a "Coping With Change" program, and a Voice Colors Yoga session.
