Lexington board approves $127 million bond sale, Verizon renewal

Select Board · Meeting of August 31, 2026

Lexington Select Board sets 2027 Patriots Day for Monday, backs $127 million bond sale. The board voted 5-0 to return the 2027 Patriots Day celebration to Monday, April 19, after two years on Saturday, following input from Police Captain Maserall on public-safety resource costs and public comment from former board member Don McKenna, who said the tradition exists to "educate the children of Lexington." Assistant Town Manager for Finance Carolyn Kosnoff reported the town sold $127 million in bonds, including $125 million for the Lexington High School project, at a low bid of 4.33 percent from Raymond James, with Moody's reaffirming the town's AAA rating. The board also approved, 5-0, a five-year renewal of Verizon's cable television license, which preserves a 5 percent franchise fee and a nearly $200,000 capital grant for LexMedia, and unanimously granted Eversource Energy a grant of location on Spring Street.

Vice Chair Vineeta A. Kumar called the bond results "a reflection of how strong our financial management is."
