Health Board Grills Eversource Over Substation Bathroom
Burlington Board of Health presses Eversource on a substation bathroom plan.
Board of Health 2026-09-22 Part 2 · Meeting of September 22, 2026
Burlington Board of Health presses Eversource on a substation bathroom plan. Eversource project manager Jeff Ciceron and civil consultant Dan McIntyre told the board a new state plumbing code now requires a single unisex toilet at unoccupied substations, prompting sharp questions about a proposed septic system and well at the company's planned Locust Street substation. The board pushed Eversource to instead seek a plumbing-code variance and pressed on whether a "tight tank" could work instead, with the company saying state guidance suggests it would be denied for new construction.
Eversource plans to file with the state's Energy Facility Siting Board by year's end under a new consolidated permitting law, kicking off a 15-month review; a public meeting follows Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Environmental Engineer Christine Mathis reported about 230 cars at Saturday's household hazardous waste event, and Director of Public Health Susan Lumenello flagged unusually weak flu-clinic turnout, with only about 10 residents signed up for Wednesday's clinic.
