Fire panel reviews tower height, tree removal plans
Fire Station Building Committee · Meeting of September 24, 2026
Boxborough's Fire Station Building Committee dug into tree removal, tower height and exterior materials a day after a contentious Planning Board pre-hearing. Design consultant Chris, of Context, showed replacement landscaping and confirmed a stand of trees marked for removal would come down entirely, while comparing the proposed 50-foot training tower to towers in Northborough, Worcester, Belmont and Littleton. Abutter Mark White, who owns a firearms business next to the site, said he learned the shop had come up in committee discussion only informally: "I don't really care who said it.
It doesn't bother me, because I think the answer was the right answer." The fire chief explained turnout-gear decontamination water drains into a sealed tight tank, separate from septic and stormwater systems. The committee approved August 13 and September 10 minutes 5-0-1 each, with Sarah Lovato abstaining, and approved a $182,153.46 vendor invoice package covering Vertex and Context billings, 6-0.
