TOWNSEND — The Finance Committee voted unanimously to recommend that the Select Board exempt the RecKids program from the town hiring freeze. Emmy, a recreation staff member, told members the program has four staff on its roster but only about two and a half actively working, and asked for a total of eight positions. "Could I have one person watch these kids?
Yes. Is it safe? No." The committee approved up to four additional hires and recommended removing two outdated summer postings from the town website.
Members also approved the Sept. 22 minutes and reviewed a fiscal 2026 unexpended balance of about $538,000, driven largely by insurance savings.
