GROTON — The Community Preservation Committee voted on paying off the middle school track 1 debt in a single year. Members took a voice vote on a motion capped at $650,000, with the total including interest given as $641,653. About $627,000 of principal remained after the $235,466 budgeted for fiscal 2026.
A one-year payoff leaves roughly $250,000 in unallocated and open space reserves, against $300,000 requests each from the Conservation Commission and Affordable Housing Trust. One member said Cow Pond Brook was "not the only important project." The school district's Sherry Kersey said Boutwell playground costs were about $600,000 across equipment, surface and installation, and the final application is due Wednesday. A $260,000 generator proposal was withdrawn after alternative funding turned up.
