Community Preservation Committee · Meeting of September 17, 2026
Watertown's Community Preservation Committee reviewed a $6 million request to help buy and build 49 affordable apartments at 108 Water Street, with a vote planned for October 15. Metro West Collaborative Development's Director of Real Estate, Sharon Small, said the nonprofit has a signed purchase and sale agreement requiring a January 2027 closing, and that the $6 million would leverage about $29 million more in financing. Watertown Affordable Housing Trust Chair Cliff Cook, who said the trust already put in $150,000 for pre-development, called the site's existing special permit "better than gold." Units would be income-restricted from 30 to 80 percent of area median income, with most deeply affordable.
The committee also accepted its August 20 minutes, with one member abstaining, and heard that roughly a dozen residents submitted letters of support.
