Water · Meeting of June 10, 2026
Concord's Public Works Commission approved a 9 percent increase in solid waste and recycling rates for fiscal year 2027, effective July 1. Highway and Grounds Superintendent Aaron Fosco, stepping in as interim Public Works Director, told commissioners the underlying budget rose 12 percent, driven by a new $107,000 fee to activate an electric collection truck and roughly $83,000 in added billing costs from the Concord Municipal Light Plant. Finance Committee liaison Paul Rodriguez noted the one-time truck charge, with no capital budget to absorb it, means "there's no way to capitalize it," straining the fund's reserve, projected to end the year at just 58 percent of its $415,000 target.
Tipping fees will rise to $107.02 per ton for solid waste and $114.90 per ton for recycling. The meeting also marked the final session for longtime Public Works Director Alan, who departs June 19.
