Burlington Select Board Raises Snow Spending Cap to $800,000 for FY26

BURLINGTON — February 9, 2026 — Burlington Select Board unanimously raised its snow and ice spending authorization to $800,000 and approved two new business licenses at its February 9 meeting. DPW Director Brian White told the board the town was already running a deficit of approximately $520,000 in its snow and ice account before a weekend storm reduced the projected buffer further, prompting members to amend the original $700,000 request upward. The board also approved changes to DPW rules and regulations narrowing the winter street-opening moratorium to December 15 through March 1 and allowing overnight work on Burlington Mall Road and Middlesex Turnpike without individual board sign-off. Julie Lewis received a general business license for Julie Ann's Bakery and Cafe, slated to open at 154 Cambridge Street in April or May, and Qdoba was approved to open at 43 Mall Road around April 20. Town Administrator John reported the former police station has been demolished and foundation work is imminent, and previewed a 280-page capital improvement plan and the start of FY27 departmental budget reviews at upcoming meetings.
