Boxborough cafe owner Oscar Brito cut the ribbon on a new cafe expansion funded partly by a $20,000 Economic Development Committee grant. Town officials said Brito's project faced more obstacles than any other grant recipient, including water filtration needs and rising construction costs, before opening. The grant, drawn from federal relief funds the town set aside for small businesses, helped pay for a new water pressure and filtration system and construction to open the expanded space, which now serves coffee and ice cream alongside the restaurant's existing menu.

Aides from a state senator's office and state Rep. Lori Tran's office presented citations congratulating Brito. "This has been a long journey for me and for my wife," Brito said, crediting his wife with the idea for the new cafe concept after nearly 11 years in business.
