Belmont Appoints CFO Jeffrey Lucas to Fill Municipal Light Board Vacancy

BELMONT — June 15, 2026 — Belmont Select Board unanimously appoints retired CFO Jeffrey Lucas to fill a vacancy on the Municipal Light Board and approves traffic improvements on three corridors. In a joint session with the Municipal Light Board Monday, the two bodies chose Lucas — a 32-year Belmont resident, CPA, and chartered financial analyst who served as CFO of a $2 billion energy management company — over two other highly regarded finalists, Kristen Blum and Mike Bufano, citing a need for financial expertise as the utility faces capital-intensive projects including battery storage and solar. Light Board Chair Dave Bevers said the board needed someone who could make sense of financial reporting as it navigates complex upcoming decisions: "I think it'd be very useful to have that skill." The board separately approved a package of Transportation Advisory Committee-recommended traffic calming measures on Beach Street, Concord Avenue, and Grove Street — the last a $4.1 million corridor redesign at 100 percent design for which State Sen. Will Brownsberger is pursuing state funding. The board also voted to opt into a state summer pilot allowing on-premises liquor license holders to extend their closing time by one hour, not to exceed 3 a.m., through July 31, while deferring action on a public alcohol-consumption zone pending business applications.
