Ayer Calls Special Town Meeting for Monday Night
AYER — Ayer residents head into a busy week of civic decisions, with a Special Town Meeting scheduled for Monday night and several board meetings shuffled or canceled ahead of it.

The Town of Ayer has called a Special Town Meeting for Monday, July 13, at 7 p.m. at Ayer Shirley Regional High School, according to the town's official website. The same evening, a Special Select Board Meeting is also scheduled, while the Board of Health meeting has been canceled. The following day, a Council on Aging Board meeting has also been canceled, though the Planning Board is still set to meet Tuesday, July 14; the Zoning Board of Appeals meeting slated for Wednesday, July 15, has been canceled as well.
Town Hall's News Flash page also lists several ongoing items of note for residents: a call for volunteers to join the Council on Aging Board of Directors, the release of the 2025 Water Quality Report, and a statement confirming that the stop-work order at Lincoln Hills has been lifted. Mandatory water restrictions imposed earlier this year remain listed among current town notices, and the town continues to solicit input on proposed changes to the Devens governance structure — a matter expected to be a focus of Monday's Special Town Meeting.

The Ayer Library remains in the midst of its summer programming, having kicked off the season with a Summer Kickoff Carnival on June 20 featuring Ed the Wizard, a bounce house, and a plant and seed swap, according to the library's website. The library continues to promote its newly added free 3D printing service, made available through a Prusa CORE One and funded by the Friends of the Ayer Library, along with its "Speed Reads" section for high-demand titles.
The library is also collecting community feedback for its next strategic plan, an effort it says will shape library services for Ayer and surrounding communities going forward.
