Weston panel revises housing chapter's reactive-versus-responsive framing

Unified Plan Committee · Meeting of August 3, 2026

Weston's Unified Plan Committee rewrites housing chapter's tone from reactive to responsive. Chaired by Danielle Black, the committee spent over two hours editing draft language, with member Adrienne Giske objecting that the word "react" was "like a trigger" toward developers. Member Rebecca Mercuri contrasted the town's planned MBTA Communities Act rezoning with Chapter 40B permits, saying the latter "just kind of comes in, and you know, it's like an invasion almost." Diana Chaplin corrected the draft's affordable-housing count from 340 units to a current 246, and flagged a data error claiming a 95 percent jump in median home prices, from $1.149 million to $2.237 million.

Members agreed to credit the town's 3A zoning district at 133 Boston Post Road, rather than two 40B projects still in litigation, with advancing Weston toward its 10 percent affordability goal. The committee's next meeting is September 14.
