West Nile Virus Confirmed In Carlisle Mosquitoes

CARLISLE — State health officials have confirmed West Nile virus in mosquitoes trapped in Carlisle, prompting a public health advisory as the town also expanded its municipal surplus sale and confirmed a fall return to full Building Department hours.

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health announced that West Nile virus has been detected in mosquitoes collected in Carlisle. The department is urging residents to take precautions against mosquito bites, including using repellent and limiting time outdoors at dawn and dusk, as the virus can circulate in local mosquito populations into the fall.

In municipal business, the town added three generators and three storage tents, no longer needed for municipal use, to its ongoing surplus sale list, a continuation of an equipment sell-off that has also included a tractor and several trucks in recent days. Separately, the Building Department confirmed it will resume its regular Friday hours in September after being closed on Fridays for the summer.
