Wayland Seeks Volunteer for Three-Year Finance Committee Term

The town is looking for one resident to step up for civic service this summer, with the Finance Committee Appointing Board posting a vacancy for a three-year term — the most concrete local government action of the past 24 hours. Community organizations, meanwhile, are rolling out a full slate of summer programming across the library, the Wayland Museum, and Vokes Players.

The Wayland Free Public Library shifts to summer weekend hours starting Saturday, June 27: Saturdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with Sundays closed through Aug. 29. On Friday, June 26, the library hosts a music and movement program at Hannah Williams Park (71 Main Street) — Erica from Parody Playhouse will perform high-energy, family-friendly songs for babies through age 6 with caregivers. The library's 2026 Summer Reading Program, "Plant a Seed, Read," is already underway, having launched June 15.
The Wayland Museum & Historical Society has two upcoming programs tied to its "Tracing Liberty" series. On Saturday, June 28, the museum hosts a Walk, Wonder, and Discover nature walk at 9 a.m. at Dudley Woods Trail (Pond Drive and Doran Road). The following Tuesday, June 30, the museum and library co-present a public reading of Frederick Douglass's "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?" from 7 to 8:30 p.m.; a family storytime version of the same event is set for Saturday, June 27 at 10:30 a.m. Both are free and open to all.
Vokes Players has announced its summer production: "Over the River and Through the Woods," a comedy by Joe DePietro directed by David Berti, runs July 24 through Aug. 8 at Beatrice Herford's Vokes Theatre, 97 Boston Post Road. The cast includes Susan Scannell Gilbert, Nolan Dupont Love, Doug Sanders, Bill Novakowski, Deanna Swan, and Allison Rollings. Tickets are available at vokesplayers.org.
