Wayland HRDEI Committee Approves Updated Community Resource Guide for Fall Distribution

WAYLAND — July 21, 2026 — Wayland's Human Rights, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee unanimously approved an updated community resource guide and mapped a two-pronged fall distribution strategy at its July 21 meeting. Chair Karen Blumenfeld said member Ken Breuss and Hernan Murdoch revised the roughly 25-page guide, correcting phone numbers and web addresses and making fewer than eight new additions; former member Steve Wynn will handle final formatting before release. The committee agreed physical copies will be placed at the Council on Aging, Wayland Public Library, Town Hall, and residential buildings including Bent and CBN Village apartments, while digital outreach will run through a QR-code flyer, the HRDEI listserv, the town newsletter, and The Wayland Post. Member Sarah Stutten flagged that the school system's ParentSquare platform already provides automatic translation in more than 100 languages, raising the prospect of distributing the guide to school families through that channel. The committee also debated disability pride month "Did You Know" content for a Wayland Post article by reporter Leslie Castillo, with members contributing statistics including a 9.2 percent unemployment rate among disabled Americans and the finding that 70 to 80 percent of disabilities are not visually apparent.
