Traffic Council · Meeting of January 15, 2026

Newton's Traffic Council voted to extend a parking ban on Suffolk Road by 190 feet, rejecting residents' push for a full ban on double-sided parking. The 5-0 vote backed Councilor Baker's incremental proposal over objections from resident Adrienne Morgan, who cited a 53-signature petition and said a school bus got stuck in November. Jen Dolans asked, "What are we really, like, fighting for?" over "six, eight parking spots." The council also approved two accessible parking spaces, at 925 Watertown Street and 10 Langley Road, but held a third request near CVS on Washington Street, 3-2, after Senior Transportation Engineer Jeff Nettleton flagged ADA design concerns.

Separately, the council approved a stop sign at Layton and Williston roads in Auburndale and denied a Homer Street parking change, 5-0.
