Tewksbury Zoning Board Approves Corner-Lot Setback Variance at 1 Charm Road
TEWKSBURY — January 29, 2026 — Tewksbury's Zoning Board of Appeals unanimously approved a residential setback variance at 1 Charm Road on January 29. Homeowner Joel Altavesta sought relief under Section 5.3.2 of the Tewksbury Zoning Bylaw to build a 15-by-24-foot master bedroom and bathroom, an unfinished basement, and a 7-by-12-foot connecting breezeway on a corner lot identified as Assessor's Map 70, Lot 145. The addition would bring the home from roughly 960 square feet to just under 1,500 square feet, placing the structure 22 feet from the front line and 10.7 feet from the side — both below the bylaw's minimums. Altavesta told the board the neighborhood routinely carries such variances, citing five on his abutter list, and said the project is driven by a growing family rather than rental or accessory-unit use. The board also unanimously approved a filing fee increase to offset rising mailing costs, with no dollar figure disclosed publicly.
