Sustainability Committee approves minutes, sets spring cleanup dates

Tyngsborough Sustainability Committee logs an $882,000 trash tab while planning spring cleanup events. Chair Diana Keohane told members the town has spent $882,000 disposing of trash and recycling from July through February, an eight-month span, with overall tonnage up 2 percent and spending up 7 percent over the prior year, or roughly $110,000 a month. The committee, meeting with Vice Chair Kristen Keegan and member Carolyn Scafidi absent, finalized an April 18 Repair Cafe at the Beehive Coworking Community, a May 2 Zero Waste Day collection event, and an April town-wide roadside cleanup with bags from the Board of Health.

Keohane said of a Zero Waste Day vendor dispute, "I don't think you have competition because we put you before everybody else." Members unanimously approved January 20 minutes and adjourned at 7:05 p.m.
