Sherborn Board of Health Sets Septic Deadlines, Clears Annual Permits

Sherborn's Board of Health set a May 2026 deadline for a failed septic repair, approved nine food establishment permits, and delegated sign-off authority on a contested new-home floor plan at its January 7 virtual meeting. Co-Chairs Daryl Beardsley and Julie Dreyfus voted 5-0 with the full board on every motion, including a requirement that 155 Maple Street complete soil testing by March 31 and install a replacement septic system by May 31 after a December 2025 Title 5 inspection failure. For 24 Greenwood Street, the board authorized Beardsley, Dreyfus, and Health Agent Mark Oram to approve revised floor plans without a full board meeting, provided the second-floor space in dispute is reduced below 70 square feet or opened into a continuous hallway of at least six feet — the threshold under which the board would not count the space as a bedroom against the property's nine-room Title 5 limit.

Member Rebecca Hunnewell, M.D. urged more community outreach on PFAS levels after public attendee Tom Trainor noted that several town wells exceed 20 parts per trillion of PFAS 6, a question the board agreed to pursue with the state Department of Environmental Protection.
