Sherborn Board of Health Approves Contested Bedrock Disruption Permit Over Abutter Objections

SHERBORN — April 8, 2026 — Sherborn Board of Health approves a bedrock disruption permit for 24 Greenwood Street despite abutter objections over well-water safety. Co-Chair Julie Dreyfus led a 4-1 rejection of an amendment, moved by board member Rebecca Honeywell, that would have barred disruption from commencing before April 15; the board then approved the permit 5-0 for work to begin April 9. Abutter Radio Lehman of 92 Old Orchard Road said he had not completed baseline water-quality sampling, and Deanna Keen of 157 Washington Street said she had never received a notification letter because it was addressed to a former co-owner. The board found that the applicant had satisfied all requirements of Board of Health Regulation 305-3.10, including mailing certified letters to 63 property owners on March 5, more than four weeks before the start date. The project had been under a cease-and-desist order since February 18 after hammering began before notifications were sent. In other business, the board unanimously approved a building permit for a new library history center, relying on water meter data showing average daily use of roughly 212 gallons against a 500-gallon-per-day septic design capacity, and cleared all 10 variances for a septic replacement at 86 North Main Street — described by Co-Chair Daryl Beardsley as "arguably number one" among the most difficult sites the board has reviewed.
