Pepperell plant panel backs tree grant pending DPW support
Pepperell plant advisory panel backs tree grant, but only if DPW signs on first.
Invasive and Native Plant Advisory Committee · Meeting of January 15, 2026
Pepperell plant advisory panel backs tree grant, but only if DPW signs on first. Climate Change Committee member Renee D'Argento asked the Invasive and Native Plant Advisory Committee for a letter of support for a two-year state grant to inventory roughly 10,000 public trees and study canopy loss along River Road. Members agreed the concept was strong, but the chair said "I think our support is contingent upon them buying into the project," referring to the Department of Public Works, and the committee will hold its letter until DPW offers at least informal agreement.
Separately, the committee unanimously approved its Nov. 13 and Jan. 8 minutes and will submit a $6,000 Wild and Scenic River grant application by March 6 to treat invasive phragmites on Boynton Street, with a possible second grant targeting Nissitissit Meadows.
