GROTON — The Groton Sustainability Commission voted to fund pollinator garden upkeep and skip a second tire collection this year. Members unanimously authorized up to $500 for spring maintenance of the town's 3,000-square-foot pollinator garden and transferred $230 from an unallocated reserve to cover a shortfall after $273.13 was already spent on signage. The panel also agreed to forgo a second tire recycling event after collections fell to just 31 tires in November, down from 77 a year and a half earlier, rolling roughly $980 into fiscal 2027.
Separately, members weighed whether to bring the town's defeated specialized stretch energy code back to a fall 2027 Town Meeting, with one member noting "59" communities statewide have already adopted it. The energy manager shared with four towns has brought in $600,000 so far under a three-year contract.
