Natick Boards Vote to Retain CBIZ for Fiscal 2026 Audit
Audit Advisory _ Select Board Joint Meeting · Meeting of September 2, 2026
Natick audit surfaces $700,000 in unbanked checks, no wrongdoing found. Auditors Todd Jurczyk and Jessica Green of CBIZ told a joint Select Board and Audit Advisory Committee meeting the fiscal 2025 single audit found four internal-control findings, including checks and receipts totaling roughly $700,000 discovered undeposited in the treasurer's office, some dating to the late 2010s. Finance Director Skye called it "clearly at the very least an organizational issue" tied to the town's failure to close its books monthly.
A separate material weakness involves a Natick Retirement Board bank account unreconciled since January 2022. Both boards voted 5-0-0 to retain CBIZ for fiscal 2026 and 5-0-0 to launch a procurement process for a new audit contract beginning fiscal 2027. Committee chair Rich Sidney said receiving draft reports the night before the meeting, as a volunteer board, was "maddening."
