Medford celebrates completion of Carr Park's second phase, anchored by a solar-covered basketball court. U.S. Rep.

Katherine Clark, the House Democratic Whip, said she secured more than $2 million in congressionally directed federal funding for the court's shade structure and solar array, which is designed to help power the fire station across the street. Mayor Breanna Lungo-Koerner thanked Director of Planning, Development and Sustainability Alicia Hunt and project manager Amanda Centrella, crediting an internal parks committee that met monthly since 2021. Phase two adds courts striped for basketball and street hockey, the city's first set of four tall swings for teenagers, a new skate park, device-charging pedestals, splash pads and invasive-plant treatment.

Centrella said the design drew on more than 16 in-person tabling sessions and input from the Parks Commission, the Commission for Persons with Disabilities and the Conservation Commission, calling the finished park "for you, by you."
