Marlborough committee approves Welly's outdoor dining for 2026 season

MARLBOROUGH — April 2, 2026 — Marlborough committee unanimously clears Welly's Restaurant to reopen its Main Street sidewalk patio for 2026. The Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee voted 3-0 Thursday to approve order 26-100-9706 from owner Wemerson Vieira, with amendments from Councilor Orem requiring a five-foot pedestrian walkway and retention of metal flower boxes Vieira said cost more than $30,000, set between existing bollards in the bump-out. Chair Navin read a letter from Council President Mike Ossing, absent from the meeting, noting the bump-outs were funded by a $3 million MassWorks grant and calling the Welly's location "ideal" for outdoor seating. Councilor Preciado, who walks Main Street with a stroller, pressed Vieira on past accessibility complaints around the host stand; he agreed to widen the path "a couple more inches." The full council is expected to take it up under suspension Monday, April 6.
