Library Swaps Summer Exhibitions as Flood Watch Looms
CONCORD — A statewide flash flood watch loomed over Concord Wednesday and Thursday as heavy rain moved through the region, even as the Munroe Gallery prepared to swap exhibitions and paving crews stood down for the second straight weather delay.
TOWN HALL
Town crews called off Wednesday's scheduled roadwork paving due to inclement weather, according to a News Flash notice posted Tuesday afternoon. No new date was announced for the rescheduled work.
Elsewhere at Town Hall, the Community Preservation Committee reminded residents that its funding window remains open, with applications for historic preservation, open space, recreation, and community housing projects due Friday, Sept. 18, at noon. The Natural Resources Commission is also seeking letters of interest for a vacancy on the Warner's Pond Management Committee through Aug. 21, as the town looks to bolster the pond's ecological health and recreational use.
COMMUNITY & ARTS
The Concord Free Public Library's Munroe Gallery is closing out "Summer Memories," a solo exhibition by Massachusetts artist Lucinda Hamilton, on July 30 after a run that began July 6. The show explored landscapes and places that shape personal memory, and included an opening reception on July 11.
Taking its place on the Main Library's first floor is "Celebrating the Art of Edward Waldo Emerson," opening July 30 and running through Sept. 10. The exhibition draws on a rare selection of works by Emerson — son of Ralph Waldo Emerson — including pieces on loan from private collections shown publicly for the first time, alongside paintings, sketchbooks, and his palette held in the library's William Munroe Special Collections.
