Lexington Sets Sept. 1 Fees for Special Waste Collection Items

LEXINGTON — Lexington residents will begin paying out of pocket for certain special collection waste items starting September 1, the town announced, as officials also rolled out a new online sorting tool ahead of a larger waste-program overhaul planned for 2027.

TOWN HALL Starting September 1, residents will be responsible for the cost of disposing of certain items that are not accepted as regular trash, under new fees tied to MassDEP waste disposal bans, according to the town. The change arrives alongside the debut of LexSortSmart, a new online tool meant to help residents figure out how and where to sort and dispose of items covered by the town's waste and recycling rules.

Separately, the town renewed public guidance this week on preventing conflicts with coyotes, urging residents to take simple precautions, such as securing food sources and giving wildlife space, as sightings continue around Lexington neighborhoods.

SCHOOLS The School Committee holds a hybrid meeting on Tuesday, August 25, according to the town calendar.
