Great Pond Panel Approves Weed Report Letter
Great Pond Advisory Committee approved a letter explaining this summer's lake weed treatment results.
Great Pond Advisory Committee · Meeting of July 16, 2026
GROTON — Great Pond Advisory Committee approved a letter explaining this summer's lake weed treatment results. Member Alexander Woodle reported post-treatment surveys found most of Lost Lake and Knops Pond "looked outstanding," but a native species, ribbon-leaf pondweed, had proliferated in one cove area, something he said is exempt from the lake's herbicide permit because it only covers non-native invasive weeds. The committee approved its prior minutes with no opposition and one abstention and voted 5-0 to encumber $2,000 for Duck Pond pump electricity.
A member said sharing results openly matters because "when you don't share news, you get these conspiracy theories." The panel's annual budget remains $22,385, unchanged from last year, after $10,000 in unspent funds was lost at fiscal year-end. Members also discussed state signage help for reckless jet ski activity at the Lost Lake boat ramp.
