TOWNSEND — The Energy Committee rewrote its mission statement and moved to send it to the Select Board. Only two of three members, Michael Brown and Ron Montgomery, attended. The draft puts greenhouse gas reduction first, proposes the name Climate Action and Energy Resources Committee, and calls for five members with staggered terms and no alternates.
A member said the only way to get "a million dollars" is to become a Climate Leader, a status the town has not applied for. Members dropped backup power from the mission for now, noting that grant programs do not support gas or propane generators. The committee suggested the Select Board use the text for a new committee in January.
