Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee · Meeting of October 8, 2026

Watertown's Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee moved to press the City Council on snow-removal enforcement and a lower speed limit. Members agreed at the Oct. 8 meeting to draft a formal statement for the November meeting after city staff liaison Zeke said a request for council time was underway, following an email exchange with Tyler on winter communication fixes. The panel also learned a new Blue Bikes station would open the next morning at Watertown High School, and member Shanta volunteered to lead a long-stalled Safe Routes to School effort, coordinating with Watertown Public Schools, MassDOT and consultant AECOM.

Members said development-project feedback too often "goes into the ether" with no follow-up and asked the library to replace failing U-shaped bike racks next budget cycle. The group also weighed a statement supporting a citywide 25 mph speed limit and future traffic safety cameras near schools.
