Boxborough Fire Station Design Hits Schematic Phase at 20,700 Square Feet

Fire Station Building Committee Design Review · Meeting of July 23, 2026

Boxborough's proposed fire station at 984 Mass Avenue reaches schematic design at roughly 20,700 square feet. Context Architecture project manager Chris Logan and principal Jeff Shaw presented a one-story, 4.21-acre site layout to the Fire Station Building Committee and roughly two dozen residents Thursday, showing a drive-through apparatus bay, a 48-person training room, 16 public parking spaces, dormitory flex spaces, and a triage room. Resident Becky Neville pressed the team to hold construction cost under $30 million — "that's always square in our sights," Logan said — while abutting property owner Mark White demanded attention to tree screening his Sarah's Way neighborhood would lose under the current concept plan; Logan acknowledged the site plan was drawn from an outdated survey missing existing trees, with a corrected survey received just two days before the meeting.

A former Planning Board member raised an unresolved question about whether the Sarah's Way connection to Route 111 carries formal MassDOT approval, and asked the committee to seek written confirmation through the state senator's office if a direct agency response was unavailable. A second public design session is planned for October.
