Bicycle Advisory Commission · Meeting of October 28, 2026

MEDFORD — The Medford Bicycle Advisory Commission weighed door-zone bike lane tradeoffs on a Tufts-led Boston Avenue redesign. Members said a community advisory panel meeting the prior night presented concepts retaining a seven-foot parking, five-foot bike lane, 10-foot travel lane cross-section on both sides near a new dormitory. One member said putting sharrows on Boston Avenue would be "a total waste" and would draw "zero more people biking down that road." The commission reached informal consensus favoring imperfect bike lanes on both sides over a single protected lane with sharrows, while continuing to push for parking removal where feasible.

Members cited Somerville's Powder House Boulevard as a reference design and noted the Tufts Gowling garage is open to the public at $2.50 per hour. The commission voted unanimously to cancel its regular November and December meetings and hold one joint meeting on December 9, formed a working group on outreach through traditional and non-social media, and tabled remaining items to focus on snow removal, flagging corridors inadequately cleared last winter to city greenway contact Amber Christopherson.
