Ashby COA Coordinator Details Free Programs Available to Residents Over 60

ASHBY — April 28, 2026 — Ashby Council on Aging coordinator outlines free daily programs for residents over 60. Sandy Leach, who has served as COA coordinator for nearly a year, appeared on the town's "Knowing Your Town" program April 28 to describe programming based out of Town Hall, open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at no charge. Regular offerings include chair yoga twice a week, a monthly free luncheon at the Congregational Church, and monthly craft sessions led by Kate Hines of the Painted Goat in Ashburnham, costing participants between $5 and $15 with the COA subsidizing a portion. A "Cheeseburger Wednesday" outing to the VFW in Townsend is scheduled for May, following a March breakfast trip to the Maple Barn in Brookline that drew more than 50 sign-ups and required a wait list. Leach said a Wednesday walking club launches in May, and a summer felting class is planned, with MARC bus transportation available for group outings at little or no cost.
